Not that we know much about either of them, but neither really seems like a Slytherin to me. I could've seen Tonks there (she has the spunky sort of personality you'd need to survive your Slytherin housemates), but never really thought she was because of the whole Black family issue and her parentage.

I kind of think all Slytherins in canon are screwed (whether they buy into the "purity" issues when they're sorted or not) by their founder and their housemates. They were doomed when they were set up as the "evil" house early on, with Harry as a potential Slytherin who opts out because he already knows their rep. I love the idea of thoroughly good (crafty, smart, and ambitious) Slytherins, but in the books, I think we may only see the "redeemed" version, like Snape or Regulus. And I wish we'd see more of Theodore Nott, because it sounds like he had the potential to be interesting. But as the books are already 877 pages long... fanfic!

Yeah, Tonks’ personality and the fact she’s a metamorphmagus was one of the reasons she was my favourite candidate for secretly being a Slytherin. I can see her taking about five minutes of crap for being a half-blood before getting tired of it and revealing her shape-shifting abilities and illustrating just how brilliant things would be for Slytherin for the next seven years should she not be pissed at the lot of them.

I think you're right in that we’re not going to get a good Slytherin, not with only one book to go. I just really don’t like the idea of being doomed from day one. Maybe it’s my knee-jerk reaction since I’m one of those people who lives permanently out of the loop so I just feel so sorry for that poor hypothetical ambitious Muggleborn kid who wasn’t told on the train that Slytherin was not the house to get sorted into.

But yes, fanfic!

I can’t believe I nearly forgot about her. She'd do nicely as a good Slytherin and I'm pretty sure Slughorn made a comment to that effect, now if only we got to meet her.

Theodore Nott all the way (assuming Slughorn, Regulus, and Andromeda are off-limits, since their good-Slytherin status is canon rather than fanon).

Theodore is very well positioned to be revealed as a good Slytherin, but in fandom he seems to be straddling the line. I half the fanfics I’ve read in which he’s show up he’s been good, and in the other half he’s been worse than Draco.
