I felt similarly about SGU. I will watch it again, but it did not really catch my eye. None of the characters are particularly competent or likable (or intriguing for that matter), I just hope that something changes soon. One of the main reasons I couldn't watch BSG after the miniseries (which I thought was excellent) was because there was a lack of humor. I can tolerate and even really enjoy incredibly depressing television, but only if the writing is good (BSG's the obvious example, Torchwood:CoE is another) but, yeah, the writing is not good enough on this show for me to tolerate much gloom. It's kind of like season one of Torchwood. They were trying to be dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy. The result was me not caring.
