I found out that news very shortly after it was announced, but RL has caused this reaction to be a bit delayed. I'm sad. I'm excited. I'm pretty much how one would hope to be about it.
I think you're right; RTD told his story with the Tenth (and, it seems, like with the first four seasons). Moffat coming in with a truly clean slate makes gives it a fresh and exciting vibe; I'm looking forward to the new season in 2010.
It does make me much more exited for 2010. I really can't wait to find out who the next Doctor is. And with everything changing, it's like having a whole new TV show to look forward too.
You're echoing my every thought on the matter. I'm really excited about Eleven! I'm a little sad too because I've loved Ten, but change is good.
I loved Ten and Donna together so much that I'm going to have a hard time warming up to him travelling with a new companion
That's exactly how I feel. I just don't know what could ever top that for me, and I'm afraid I'd always be comparing and finding the new companion lesser. Which isn't something I want to be feeling when season 5 starts up.

Yes. I'm feeling so much more excited about series five now that we've got a blank slate since there's no baggage and the comparisons will not come naturally.
I'm okay with the news. I was more *shocked* than anything because yea.. I was watching the NTA's live and it was a bit of a "WTF" moment. Yes, it will be sad because he has been part of the show for a while now, but on the other hand, as you say - Ten has had almost a full circle story, and I think DT summed it up in saying that it is better to go now while he will be missed rather than overstaying his welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing what new projects DT will be in, and as to who Eleven will be and the personality he will be.
That would be a shock watching it live. I'm really surprised that they managed to keep it a secret, it was quite the media coup keeping it under wraps.
And I'm really looking forward to see what DT does next and who the new Doctor is as well.
There was a media embargo on the news until 10pm that night, but I think the Guardian broke it and leaked the story and had to pull it from their website. Obviously David wanted to let people know himself.
