International Graduates - Integrated, Accepted?

Hi !

I have two questions, for people working in the United States of America.

1. Do you work with any international graduates (or are you one yourself), where are they/you from? India/Pakistan/Mexico? How is it in the workplace, do they integrate, are they accepted and are they as competent or more so? Or, if there are any issues are they more about ( Read more... )

Most of my classmates have been studying about 20-25 hours a week since we got back to school, and we'll ramp up studying to around 10 hours a day at the end of March when we finish with classes and start doing mandatory board review. Most of us are taking our boards at the end of May or in June. We have to have them taken by July 1.

I work for the Navy and we do not accept residents from foreign medical schools, but here were my observations from medical school/civilian rotations:

1. Have you been to the US before? If so, you would probably notice that its really not a completely white country. Yes, white majority, but minorities are quite common. A lot of the FMGs I worked with as a student, most had actually practiced in their native country or were required to do an internship before even moving here, so they were ahead of the game compared to a lot of US grads and probably top of the top in their country, but this is my opinion based on very little experience here.

2. This is probably different for you then for US grads. The FMGs I knew took a Kaplan class or something to study since half the battle is understanding the test format and what they are looking for, so *time* spent studying might be irrelivant.
