A very interesting article. A friend made me some banana bread, which I find too heavy, but I told her I liked it to be nice and she kept bringing more and more until she went on a diet and stopped baking.
Depends on what one views as truth, though. I'm sure my mother thought she was being truthful when she told me that interracial relationships were doomed to fail, but I don't think I gained anything from hearing that from her except one more reason not to trust her.
And there's also necessity. Every so often someone points out to me that I'm fat and should lose weight, as if they think I have no idea and am waiting only for their comment before upending my life and putting myself throughout he useless misery of dieting.
I try to be truthful, in general, but I try to remember that my perspective is limited -- I'm just a mortal woman, not God omnipotent -- and that for something to be worth saying it should be at least of kind, true, and helpful.
