“Ridiculous Thoughts~Alternate Take,” Part Five....

I thought I was finished with this project when I got a Private Message at K-D from Shelbyshire:

"Did you know there is another version of "Ridiculous Thoughts" on the Cranberries' STAR DVD," she asked.

No, I did not!

Well, she said, there was. And, it had even more Elijah Wood material on it than ( Read more... )

Mech, I have purposely avoided these screencap posts of yours because I already have 1000 pics of Lij from this video...and I knew that if I opened even one post, I'd be tempted to save 1000 more....

He's just...there are no words for how beautiful he is in this video. Glad you found the "extended edition".

Ah, thank you Aquila. Yes, "the extended edition." That's good. You have A THOUSAND? This is only a little more than a hundred. I can't believe there is a cap in here you don't already have. For me, though, the pleasure comes from seeing them displayed like this, so that one can scroll down a set of full-sized caps. It isn't the same, for me, when I click open a set of frames in sequence. Slide show works pretty well, but I still like it that I get to see one image fade into the other and see the transition as it is happening.

He's just...there are no words for how beautiful he is in this video.

Exactly.

No, not a thousand -- I was being facetious. But I do have...a lot.

Ah, well, that's a relief. (Friends in H.S. used to tease me about taking things literally, I confess....*blush*)

Mech,
I just LOVE your screencapping of this video !!

I haven't had the pleasure of watching this yet, but I do remember reading that there was an awful lot of disagreement between either the video Director versus the Band, or the Band and the Director versus the record label...but I do remember that the disagreement was about how much of the film sequence there should be in the video, and how much band footage there should be, proportionwise...

I would reckon that the Director and the band wanted the arty film version, starring Elijah, and the Record Label wanted what ended up as the finished article, with much more emphasis on the band playing the song...

I'm very glad to hear that the original video has been included somewhere for posterity, because it reflects what the band originally wanted for their song...and gives us an opportunity for endless perving...er, screencapping of course !

Thanks, Wendy, for a bit of background on the video itself. I so much preferred the "artier" version, which established a distinct sense of narrative, and loads of mood. The band footage wasn't bad, but it was interchangeable with any other band footage.

The video works much better for me in its "alternate" version, which lets the visuals carry the interest, making it seem that there is a story where there really isn't one. The song itself has very repetitive, uninteresting lyrics, although the sound of it is evocative.

(Check out the lyrics on a website. Not much to rave about, in my opinion.)
