Thank you, Pierre Vinet

I can't express how much I love this man's portraits of the trilogy characters. What a way he had of capturing his subjects. I bow my head in memory of this gifted artist whose work has so enriched my love of The Lord of the RingsTo commemorate his work, I am linking an entry I made a few years ago, presenting ( Read more... )

He had a real eye for portraiture. He captured his subject with visual fidelity, but also conveyed a sense of the person's mood or aura -- the character or person's inner life.

He had also taken the photo of Sam with Frodo in his arms, one of my favourites.

He took *gorgeous* production stills. I love the colour portraits (posed) of Frodo and Gandalf, but also love SO MANY of his production stills. He did beautiful shots for the King Kong shoot, too.

Those portraits were some of the first LOTR images I ever saw. They're still breathtaking.

Aren't they super? His colour portraits were jaw-dropping, too. (My icon is from one of his Frodo portraits, which I'm sure you know intimately.) And his production stills for the films were iconic. What a loss!

Oh yes, I know that photo--so very lovely.

Do you know if he did any color photos of Sam?

No, I don't Belle. But I've never actively looked for Sam photos. But some of the very well-known colour stills of Sam with Frodo are by Vinet, though. Maybe a book of his work will come out. I'd buy it in a trice. :)

You're welcome, Shirebound. He was such a gift to us. I wonder what he died of? He couldn't have been old. His family and friends must be so sad.

I just Googled his name to find out his dates. Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News has done a piece on him. I'm going to add the link to the post above.

Nope, Quint wrote it, not Harry Knowles. It's a nice piece with a lot of pictures.
