Galadriel’s Glade Pt. 4a ~ 'You offer it to me freely'.....

Note: There were so many caps for this scene I had to divide it into two parts. The first half of this post contains the introductory comments, the book scene, the film text and half the screencaps. The second half, Galadriel's Glade Pt. 4b, contains the rest of the screencaps and the poem jan-u-wine has written inspired by both sections ( Read more... )

It’s too bad for Cate Blanchet, so excellent when allowed to be, to have had her big moment spoiled by PJ’s love of horror movies and tinkering with special effects.

So true! And her voice became so distorted, my mom couldn't understand a word she was saying.

Your mom was right. The voice was so wrong. It should be beautiful, compelling, not like some giant goon! :)

A beautifully done post. Thank you!

And I agree with you completely regarding this scene. It makes me cringe to watch it.

Elijah... is, as you so rightly say, not only magnificent, but an eloquent and dignified reminder of the message that is 'supposed' to be conveyed in this scene.

PS. I miss Sam's presence.

Love..

Thanks very much, Rakshi. I've always wanted to have my say on this, and to think about why I didn't like it. It was great to see EW's awed, hair-blowing back takes, though. They were *perfect*.

I would add a trace of disappointment that I see in the last two shots of his face, as he realizes that even Galadriel can't take the burden from him for fear of what it would do to her.

Oh, I like that, Mews, and had never noted it. That's one of the beauties of screencaps, the way they capture mini-moments.

'She lifted up her hand and from the ring that she wore there issued a great light that illumined her alone and left all else dark. She stood before Frodo seeming now tall beyond measurement, and beautiful beyond enduring, terrible and worshipful ( ... )

You liked the streaming-hair-screencaps? I had about a dozen, but I had to trim them way down to get even this much of the scene in this post. The scene may be questionably done, but it makes superb visual images. :)

Yes, it's a shame they did what they did with the temptation scene, but, ah, well. There have been such well-known illustrations of Galadriel holding that ring aloft, and P.J. was so fond of memorable illustrations, you'd think just that would have steered him into a book-like scene. But I think he was just too worried the Glade scene would be too talky.

"Gorgeous screencaps", say you? Wait till you see the way yours look in the next post. Yowza!

Another wonderful post, Mechtild! I do agree with what you and others have said regarding Galadriel's 'freaking out' moment - it would have been much better just to let Cate convey this through her acting which I'm sure she would have done perfectly. Love your hilarious icon, btw:D

And, of course, I'm in full agreement with you re Elijah's wonderful reactions in this scene:)

Isn't that icon great? It was made by Iconzicons, who made a whole series from Bakshi frames, with funny comments added. I first saw them in aussiepeach's LJ, and she told me where to go. If you are interested, here's what I got using her tag for LOTR, under the category animation. As you'll see, there are four posts of icons made from Bakshi. Just open them up and have a laugh:
