You guys, how can this be nearly three years old?  There's no point in fisking such an ancient relic.  BUT I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY.

A little known fact is that I pioneered this style in 1998. Reporters don't come to Appalachia to research for style section features, though.

well, they missed out on the opportunity to get the scoop then, didn't they?

i know that the argument is that cities like NY and LA are ahead of fashion trends generally, but it seems to me that this "revelation" is rather outdated for NYC.

I'm thinking that's b/c it only becomes a trend when well-off young white people pay lots of money to do it. So until Prada decided to make $200 "boy jeans", no one who mattered to the reporter was interested.
