Bright Colors, Dancing, and Soft Fabrics!

It’s been a long, hard winter for me, so I’ve been turning inward and burrowing into my warm room-cave to hibernate with my computer and sketchbook. With all the bleak flatness of winter outside I’ve been obsessing even more over fashion instead - fabrics, silhouettes, patterns, textures, hairstyles, accessories, everything (I feel like Vince Noir ( Read more... )

Thanks, lady! I wish you could have seen the China Design show in person because it was really somethin'. I got the anatomy from "How to Draw the Human Figure: An Anatomical Approach" by Louise Gordon which I really like. It's not photos or medical-level illustrations with the names and everything and ahhhh too much for laurel's brain- it's clearly made by a fellow artist who is trying to break the body down into sections. I know you know all the actual important anatomy things since you've studied it but I recommend this book annnyway in general. Naked people. <3

I just got Louise Gordon's book out from the library and was beyond delighted to recognize some of the drawings in the book from your studies in this post. You drew them so beautifully, my goodness, Laurel!

Your admiring fan,
AND YES YOU ARE VERY DEEP 8D,

I love all of your sketches. My favorites are the clothes from Hitchcock, Stormy Weather, and the Harajuku Girls.

Thank you for all of the blog recs! I have discovered the joys of google reader so I can finally follow blogs easily. Perfect timing. :D

Thank yoooou! :D I'm glad you liked them. Drawing clothing - especially clothing outside of my personal day-to-day experience - is so much fun!

No trouble at all for the recommendations - it's the least I can do in return for all the lovely ones you post. :D Oooh, google reader, eh? I should investigate that myself. Thanks!

Google reader is amazing. It's basically an aggregator for all of your blogs and it's super easy to use.

YES, I do. I love the main heroine: she's blunt, straight-forward, honest but emotionally unsophisticated so her interactions with others are a joy to read. I also like the unconventional takes on female friendship. Hardly anyone is a caricature--even the mean girl tormenting her has her own reasons and personality. I don't like some of the latest plot points but I really read it for the characters.

I really should make rec posts for the obscure shoujo I like. If you like Akuma to Love Song, you should also read Warau Kanoko-sama.
