It's gone

Jun 21, 2010 11:52

I just keep staring at the website. Ever since I caught it on the Weather Channel about a half-hour ago, I'm just... stunned. The place where I saw all of my big childhood events - from the DIsney ice shows to concerts to rodeos to my own high school graduation... gone.

Destroyed yesterday by tornado. It's a total loss.

Just... stunned.

It seems the places we make memories ought to always be there, until someone decides new and bigger is better and demolishes it. At least then we get our goodbyes...

This, however...I can't begin to imagine. I'm very sorry to hear it.

What gave me chills was this line:

If the tornado had hit the building a day earlier, 3,800 football fans would have been in the arena for a Billings Outlaw game.

I know it's awful to part with such an important place in your and so many other people's lives -- but I'm so glad no one was killed.

When I was a freshman in high school, an F5 tornado went right up a major thoroughfare and dropped onto an elementary school. It was 5:30. No one was in the school. It gives me the willies to this day to think about the potential for loss of life and terror if it had been a few hours earlier.

Hugs.
