I think that's a very good take on the comedown from Opiates... not writing from experience are you?? ;) It's gritty and unpleasant (in its imagery) but then that's what that life is like. Nicely handled!

Charlie was other things, once.

I loved this line, and how you wrote Charlie, trapped in a life he thought he wanted but now that he has it it's not as good.
Maybe the island was freedom for him. I like to think so.

I really think so, too. That was maybe what was behind this story, actually--the desire for me to understand the constrast.
