This automotive failure is so hard. People mock how pervasive the American automotive market is in our nation, but it really is a factor in so many livelihoods; especially here in Michigan. The place my mother works derives 70% of its business from the automotive industry -- fortunately it's not ALL wrapped up in GM, though Toyota, Hyundai, and Nissan are all cancelling orders at the moment -- and over the summer peaked at something like 500 employees. After today, they'll be down to 300 after their third or fourth lay-off since September. And they're looking to do another lay-off after Christmas. They were the biggest employer in this town, surpassing (I believe) even the hospital
