(Also, on a completely unrelated note, as a woman named Mick, I personally appreciate how often your female characters have names that are not always traditionally either male or female.)
One of my favorite people has a name that is typically a boy's name, and she rocks it. I stole it for this one (she's Charlie, short for Charlotte), because I love the idea of subverting gendered naming. I'm glad it works for you! <3
In my case, Mick is short for Karmic. But I like to think I rock it, too. ;-) I also feel it fits my persona better than anything super girlie... I can be feminine in my own way, when I want to be, but I'm not really the soft pink, flowery type. And, it works for me in an online setting (such as sending out résumés in a highly male dominated field, for example), where if people choosing to make assumptions about my gender gets me a foot in some doors I might not otherwise have, I'll take whatever advantages I can get.
I loved "dune boggle" and what you did with it! This was such fun to read and I really enjoyed the five-year-old perspective. You did that so well. I was wondering if someone might write about a boondoggie, and this is another great twist on the prompt. Very clever!
Thanks! I wish I could take credit for the idea - - one of my friends actually told me that I should do it! I mentioned being stuck and she floated the idea of a little kid getting it mixed up after overhearing their parents talk about it. I took that and ran with it, and the rest is history. :D
