That's my headcanon and I'm clinging sticking to it!

I approve of this headcanon and wish to subscribe to it. This was an ending that might have worked in s2. It did NOT work in s9, and sticking to it despite having spent 9 years telling a different story is one of the most baffling writer decisions I've seen.

Luckily, the wedding episode works as a decent series finale too. As far as I'm concerned, there's really no reason to acknowledge that this episode exists.

*nods*

When the pain of this finally subsides and I eventually rewatch the series again, I'll be stopping at "The End of the Aisle."

Oh, Nic. Your ending of the show would have been beautiful, even if Disney didn't let Nick Fury show up at Maclaren's.

Well, Cobie Smulders was on the first episode of SHIELD. It would've been a nice trade if Samuel L. Jackson could've been on the last episode of HIMYM. Like in Buffy7/Angel4 when Alyson Hannigan was on Angel and David Boreanaz was on Buffy even though they were on different networks.

Sadly, two little boys named Carter and Craig committed to their little bait and switch, so now we'll never get to see it.

I want to quote this entire post all over the internet but this at the start is was rings true and pisses me of "It doesn't feel like any story the writers set out to tell, but rather a trick the writers set out to play"

ughh I'm still so mad, I'm a sort of Barney/Robin shipper, but I could have dealt with their break up... just like I did the first time, but the execution was horrible. Hell! for all the character regression, they might as well should have killed off Barney too, it would have been less of a disservice to his awesomeness.

But I'm with you on the whole rather reread Buffy Comics, at least I'm at a place to make fun of them now, but this... I wasn't even able to really watch it the first time around.

I agree that having Barney killed off would have been less painful than watching him regress like that. If they were really committed to the Ted and Robin ending, there were still so many other ways to get there. And killing Barney off as well would have been a lot nicer than what happened.

I spent this whole episode just waiting for a punchline. For the other shoe to drop. For someone to wake up from this nightmare. And I spent the last couple of minutes just shouting "Really?!?!" at my TV screen. It was dreadful.

Yes, dreadful. That's the best word to describe it.

I keep reading reviews and I realize I didn't even get to see the memorable thing like Lily paying up to Marshall for the Ted/Robin bet because I was so upset. It's a shame because usually, during series finales you want to commit everything to memory but with this I was looking away more than not.
