I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm not as creative as I think I am ( Read more... )

Oh man, I'm sorry for contest suckage. You never know what possesses people to vote the way they do in those things. *many hugs* *and a smiley Codex icon*

This may sound cliche, but in any creative process the goal should really be self-satisfaction. Unless, of course, you are trying to win some sort of contest or poll, because then you have to appeal to people... But if you are just mostly concerned about your creativity level, the most important thing is whether or not you are satisfied with your work. It is nice to appeal to many others, of course... but sometimes people can be stupid ( ... )

I concur.

As for the talking, my feedback for the previous video had said that I used too much show dialogue. And of course, a lot of fans of the show already know what's going on in the scenes. It's hard to know where to draw the line, I guess. (And I actually had upped the volume a bit there, but they were pretty much whispering so it didn't really work. If I had gone much farther though, they would have begun to be overmodulated and crackly.)

Point well taken though. I try not to use too many shots with open mouths, but it's hard because I do know what they're saying and it's usually something that fits what I'm trying to express. (I probably abused it with my Jin and Sun vid when there were subtitles over most of the shots. ... You gotta get through some more Buffy so you can watch that.)

Subtitles are probably fine. In fact, maybe try putting your own subtitles in there when there is relevant dialogue. It may just look bad, of course, but it may work. That way, those of us who have never seen the show will have some idea why there are so many mouths wordlessly talking.

(As for Buffy... oh wait. I went to Netflix to see exactly where I was [I think 12 episodes into season 5 (that goes for Angel as well)], but it would appear that in Netflix's attempts to reconfigure their TV show pages, watching ability for Buffy is not currently available... damn. I'll have to wait to contine, then. [Are there any significant crossovers or anything in the second half of the seasons, or if I continue with Angel will I be ok?])
