the death of a friend

The weekend before last was amazing faire wise. This was good because the rest of life was unimpressive. I was on my way to the festival and just outside of Madison, shortly after getting onto 94 actually if anyone cares, my car decided that 65 mph was too much to be asked of it. In fact, any movement of it's own accord became outside of the realm ( Read more... )

That actually happened to my dad's car as he was driving me down to Beloit this last wee. Car made a sudden crunching, grinding, banging sound, and my dad pulled the car over to the side of the highway just before it cut out. OnStar ordered a tow truck for us, but while we waited we noticed the fluids leaking out under the car.

Random tow truck man (who happened to be one of my dad's regular periodontal patients) informed us that we'd probably blown a piston, which involved the piston actually breaking out of its casing, leaving bedlam in its wake.

You might still be able to fix the Beigemobile... and by fix, I mean have the engine replaced.

Yeah, I don't have $500 for the part alone and if I did I wouldn't want to put it into the Beigemobile. Though I will admit the engine remains the only problem with an otherwise wonderful car. Simply now that means thousands of dollars worth of work.

That is unfortunate. I, too, shall soo be without motorized transport, as I shall be moving into Madison and no longer have access to my parents' vehicles.

Lame, I sympathise. It makes things difficult but luckily public transit in Madison is pretty good.

In clement weather or during the right hours, yes. Some of my activities will keep me out well past the times that the buses run. But it's definitely better than Eau Claire.

I was alerted to this change in mood of my car by a series of noises like two robots fighting in an aluminum trash can.

Great writing, shitty situation.

RIP beigemobile. You were a helpful beast. Also, I get back to Beloit in less than a week! Woopwoop!

I'm looking forward to seeing you again. We'll have to do an official I went to a foreign country brag session so we can get it all out in front of other similar people. Lord knows we'll be annoying the hell out of everyone else with "Oh, it's just like when I was passing through Paris the third time...".
