Continuing my Shepard is a Reaper world:

"Anderson?"

"What is is Shepard?"

"Earth defenses fired at me again."

"I told you to always broadcast the friend/foe codes."

“Well, if I got that N7 stripe, I don't think it would happen so often”

"..."
"Nice try, but the answer is still no"

”Dammit.”

A small part of Shepard's mind wondered how in the midst of troubles pressing in on all sides (millions dying each day... friends sacrificing themselves to save me... Reapers clawing at the edges of every civilized world...) that something so simple could make those troubles seem distant.

His stubble rasps against the skin of her hand as she smooths her thumb across his cheek. His lips, soft and warm as they kiss her palm, send a rush of pleasure that makes her mouth smile and her toes curl in her shoes.

It must be... she thinks as his eyes meet hers and the look in their depths makes the breath catch in her throat, a kind of magic.

Somewhere between shot #2 and her second beer, Shepard had managed to get piss drunk. James hadn't figured it would be so easy to get someone like the commander from 0 to 10 so quickly, but within an hour she had managed to scare off half the dance floor in Purgatory and he'd found her shortly thereafter leaning against the wall by the public phone, head drooping, and figured it was time the Commander went home. Apparently the rumor of Shepard's legendary inability to hold her alcohol was not embellished in any way.

"You weigh a ton, Lola." Jane twisted slightly in his arms, not enough that James would drop her, but enough to be a nuisance. She glared up at him through glassy eyes.

"S'all the muscle." She tried in vain to roll up a sleeve, and when that didn't appear to be happening she instead flexed her left bicep and smiled smugly at him. Of course, he could see nothing through the bulky layers of her sweatshirt.

"Woah, Lola, put those guns away before we get arrested."

"Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Vega." Her ( ... )

If crew members had pets

Joker looked over at EDI, the AI lounging in the copilot's chair. She had her head bent over her omni-tool, a shapeless blob projected from it. The blob bounced, and bounced some more. Then he saw what looked like brown whipped cream, but it couldn't be that, could it? "EDI, what are you doing now?"

She aimed the projection into his lap. "I am experimenting with a program Specialist Traynor recommended. It is an updated version of the 20th century 'Tamogatchi.'"

"Tamo-what?"

"A word commonly believed to mean 'friend' in the Japanese language. In this case, it is a virtual pet."

He shrugged and turned back to his plots. "Sounds better than the time Grunt brought a varren on board when we were on Tuchanka or all the Commander's dead fish before she bought that VI."

Charr leaned back against the cave wall. The Rachni would be on him soon, he had lost too much blood to escape. Death was close. His numb fingers wrapped around his datapad.

Closing his eyes for a moment, allowing himself to picture his lovely Ereba safe on the Citadel. She was the best thing that ever happened to him. Her smile, her eyes. How she looked when he told him she was pregnant.

He would have loved to know his daughter. She would be just as lovely as his mate. He would have been happy with his girls.

Powering on the datapad letting the orange light illuminate the darkness as he recorded his final message, praying his words would somehow reach her.

"Oh Blue Rose..."

Transmissions had been dodgy ever since the first attack. Most of the time, there was nothing on the air but static. The rumours that the Reapers could track signals made even switching on the damn thing terrifying, never mind using it to broadcast. But sometimes people risked it. When they had information that needed to shared, when another city fell or another tactic failed. Making a single mistake could get you killed, but other people's mistakes had saved their lives a dozen times over ( ... )

I love this little 'slice of life' of what it must be like some random shmoe person stranded on Earth. Kinda reminds me of 28 Days Later. :)

James looked up from pouring another cup of coffee as a peal of laughter rang through the mess. Lola and the new guy - Major Alenko - were rounding the corner from the elevator. James hadn't thought of a nickname for the major yet though he was leaning toward "Elvis." Nothing like the classics ( ... )

Ha, well, whatever it was supposed to be, I approve of what it became! I love a good Garrus/James banter.
