Another discussion was about print and books, and where books are going. After all, look Amazon Kindle, a wireless e-book. Something tells me this may be the Laserdisc of its time in the world of books. But hey, I could be wrong ( Read more... )

I think the kindle is exciting. I hope eventually my computer screen looks like that. I wouldn't have to wear glasses anymore, that's for sure.

I for one love the idea of e-books and other e-media when reading non-fiction and doing research. When it comes to fiction for fun reading, I prefer the book in hand, and an old, musty one at that.

Actually I think people are reading more - just not necessarily on paper. I think the internet has been an incredible help with this because it has such easier access (I would so rather read online than go to the library and be surrounded by drunk/angry homeless people, loud kids, slobbered/germ-ridden pages/lack of updated material/paying muni fare to get there). I think our populace is more informed than it ever has been because of this. I don't think books have been a correct measure of how much people read since the mid-80s, because written words are available in so many mediums. I read for hours before work (online, magazines). I read at work (online, cell phone news/blogs on the train). I read when I get home (GRE studying, books ranging from The Lotus Sutra to manga series to re-reading RUR). I don't think that online/digital reading should be devalued - it's still reading, and anything to get our populace to be more literate, informed, and exposed to new opinions is fantastic in my opinion. I have things scattered around that I am reading....I am currently reading ...in my upstairs bathroom this months Comso. In the living room I have Weight Loss for Dummies,down stairs bathroom out of material at the moment ;)

I have been on my quest for my next book to read though!
