PBS: Ballroom life and racial sleuthing

So tonight became a date with PBS. First, "America's Ballroom Challenge." Man, what a ton of fun. I watched most of it with Rosemary over the phone, and it was great watching those champion dancers do their thing. Mmmm, sexy dancer slinkiness ... OMG I wish I knew this was on because I totally would have watched it!

How exciting to have been in Gates's seminars @ Harvard! I can only imagine the thrill. I used some of his points in The Signifying Monkey in my discussion of black lit crit in relation to poetry and song. I feel like I needed his seminar to more thoroughly discuss these issues, but I am only a musician. ;)

I really wish I watched this!!!

I haven't been watching much tv for various reasons lately, but apparently I need to be scheduling it in.

For someone interested in both ballroom dancing and (secondarily, but relevantly, racial politics), I recommend the documentary Mad Hot Ballroom about ballroom dancing for grade-school kids in New York City across a variety of classes and ethnicities. Okay, my 13-year-old niece is obsessed with it, but she does not have bad taste.

"Mad Hot Ballroom" is cool stuff. I haven't seen it yet, but have seen a bunch about it. Very interesting.
