MOOT ALERT: Film times, HFR 3D, and getting tickets

Nov 19, 2012 23:39

AHOY, MOOTIES!!!! I think we would do best with getting tickets for Friday evening so lbilover and Cali can join us. Sound good? And Leah will be joining us Sunday, so let's plan on seeing it again Sunday afternoon.

And here's something to consider: according to PJ here, those of us who get headaches and eye strain from 3D, because of the off- ( Read more... )

Fine! I'll eat your share of popcorn. (-;

Are you planning to hang out a while on Friday with Tree? if not, I made a suggestion to Tree below about coming out here.

Well, I've read that PJ himself suffers from headaches/nausea when watching regular 3D, so if he says it doesn't cause them, I'm willing to give it a go. Just to be on the safe side, I'll take some anti-nausea & headache meds ahead of time. I would like to see the 48 fps myself. And I would definitely like the 2D for the second showing. Thanks for organizing all this!!! *big hugs*

You've made me more confident that this 3D really will be good and not hurt our heads. As I was saying to Julia below, it does make sense he's trying to correct a problem he's seeing in the way the industry is using 3D as a gimmick. I do doubt his storytelling choices, but I don't doubt his and WETA's standards as visual craftspeople. You're welcome. *hugs backatcha* (-;

I'm fortunately not emotionally invested in The Hobbit, as the book doesn't mean a fraction of what LOTR does to me, so any, ah, interesting storytelling choices won't bother me too much. I'm v. curious about the 48 fps and how it will look, and it's a relief to know that it should be easier on the eyes and stomach!! One thing is for certain, the music, the costumes, the scenery, will all be AMAZING. :)))

Yup--same here. While I'm more emotionally invested in LotR due to loving the characters and their relationships, not that I don't love Bilbo, I'm more intellectually invested in The Hobbit than emotionally. While LotR has the relationships of love and loyalty that fill our hearts, and exemplars for us to live up to, The Hobbit deals with the less perfect--having to be disloyal when your friends are being putzes, to better serve their safety and a higher justice, whether they ever appreciate it or not. It's more emotionally complex that way. I didn't like it when I was 12, mostly because of that intrusive narrator guy who wouldn't let me immerse myself in the story. (-; I hated intrusive narrators then. It put me off from reading LotR until I picked it up at 15 and found it was exactly the kind of story I could immerse myself in. Ironically, I think TH is a more adult story, and I wasn't ready for it then.

And yes on the music, costumes, and scenery--it's our Middle Earth--where we want to be.(-:

Your idea sounds perfect to me, I'll go along with almost anything. Sorry I haven't been around to read all the messages....times are busy here.

I was wondering if you didn't want to hang out in the hotel by yourself all afternoon, since romeny was going to drop you off at noon and they may not have rooms for you until 3 pm, would you like to ask romeny to drop you off at my place instead, and we could go walk around the lake and hike over at Cascade Falls and then go over to Westminster together, get checked in at the hotel, and hopefully meet up with more mooties for dinner before the movie? Getting to my place is probably a little closer for romeny than driving out to Westminster.

That sounds great, although I've had excellent luck with motels letting me register early. I may just take a nap before everyone gets there.

Did you read the article I linked and see Ellen's comment above? It's not going to be like the other 3D because PJ, too, couldn't handle those. The important part is the new film speed.

I know--I'm not completely sure either, but chances are good it will be fine, since PJ has the same problem we did with regular 3D. If you wind up walking out, Ellen and I will be walking out with you, so we can curse PJ together. (-; But at least we'd know we'd get to see the whole thing in 2D on Sunday.

And on the other hand, I'd hate to miss seeing it in the new film speed with 3D, and pay for it twice at 2D and never see it the full way in the theater. So it's a chance either way. I do trust PJ's visual sensibilities; it makes sense that he's trying to correct a problem he sees with the way the film industry is doing 3D and is not just using it as a gimmick, especially since he really doesn't need an additional gimmick to get people to the theater for this. I don't like all his storytelling sensibilities, but he and WETA are true visual craftspeople. I'd like to give it a shot, if you're game. And I will pick you up and drive you home.
