Also, a quick comment about 3 bedroom apartments: bizarrely enough I've occassionally seen situations where 2 smaller apartments (2br + a studio) cost less than a 3 bedroom, esp if the person in the studio can bring their laundry to the bigger apartment. So it's worth checking to see whether that's the case in San Jose.
Lastly: Does the full address dice.com requires absolutely have to be your home address? Does it pass it on to employers to mail you at? If not, is there any reason you can't lie to it, to get it to show you jobs in the area you want?

I'm actually looking around Seattle, but the same thing applies, obviously. (I just looked at studio apartment rents in San Jose -- they start about where a 2-bedroom is in Seattle.)
I'm planning to switch my dice.com address to a friend's. I don't know whether they pass it to employers, but they definitely use it to define your search area.
