Have you installed the latest version of Audacity? Also, on that same page, click on the "Help" tab - you may find an answer to your problem there. (Based on a quick reading, you may not have enough memory and/or disk space to keep Audacity happy.)

Lenny doesn't have the latest, but it should be recent enough. The problem is almost certainly connected with the flaky disk.

Audacity seems to want some contiguous blocks for workspace. I'm expecting it to complain sometime Real Soon Now, as this machine is perilously close to running out of disk space. (OTOH, I use it far more for editing than for recording; I can't create a quiet enough environment in the same room as the computer, and I have no other recording gear any more.)
