Hmm, I rode that route when I was exploring the possibility of biking to Cadence. It's an interesting ride, but definitely not a commute route.

Basically the proposed commute route, taking Taylor to the Guadalupe River Trail. There's a really harrowing underpass on Taylor,
I wouldn't want to have that underpass as part of my commute, and I'm generally pretty comfortable with riding in traffic. I just did a little poking around with street view, and it looks like you are well and truly hosed for bike commute routes. San Jose appears to have completely dropped the ball on providing viable routes across the tracks
