what audio driver did it install? the onboard audio on my MBP turns out to be some realtek thing, i think, so you might be able to get a different driver. i'm surprised it wasn't set to "3rd party to resolve" though.
It was realtek. I might put some of my current and old bugs into OpenRadar, but I dunno, I've never had any luck with actually get stuff fixed with them. The most interesting response I've ever had from Apple was me reporting a regression in the behavior of the display prefpane (at some point in 10.3.x they removed the ability to force a resolution, which was useful with broken/missing EDIDs) and they told me it was "working as intended" because if the monitor has an EDID they'll trust it. Durrr.
