apparently, I am good for the critters outside too. My neighbor has his backyard all paved over in concrete pavers. mind you we live in townhouses so the backyards are very small about 50'-60'x20'-25' something like that. he gets angry when the birds poop on his pavers. I have a flower garden that runs the length on one side about 3' wide and a small garden shed, a tree at the end and a memorial garden for my kitties cremains with engraved paver stones on the other. The neighbor gets mad at me for feeding the birds and squirrels. Last summer he went on a killing spree when he found snakes in his wood pile for his fireplace. I told him that garter snakes will not bother him and they eat the mice in the garden.
At least Baltimore has lots of green space and builders are required to plant trees but there are neighborhoods that are nothing but concrete. I feel claustrophobic in those areas. It is weird, like I am outside and can't breathe.
