What really matters

It was a typical morning.  I stood in the kitchen with my bare feet on the cool, bamboo flooring, preparing the morning breakfast for the cats.  Stanley stands up on his hind legs,  reaches his paws just under my night shirt touching my left knee cap and with a little squeak of a meow, he lets me know that I am working too slow.   I look down to ( Read more... )

Oof, thank you for writing this, and for taking in and caring for animals! Having done rescue in the last several years and well, being who I am, one of my first thoughts on the prompt is how we are all killing our home and everyone on it. Thank you for caring for them all. <3

Ugh, the attitude of that family just drives me up the wall! Maybe it's because I've had pets since I was little (my family never had less than two cats and two dogs, often more), but I just can't stand the thought of just "giving away" any of mine. They're family.

thanks for reading.

apparently, I am good for the critters outside too. My neighbor has his backyard all paved over in concrete pavers. mind you we live in townhouses so the backyards are very small about 50'-60'x20'-25' something like that. he gets angry when the birds poop on his pavers. I have a flower garden that runs the length on one side about 3' wide and a small garden shed, a tree at the end and a memorial garden for my kitties cremains with engraved paver stones on the other. The neighbor gets mad at me for feeding the birds and squirrels. Last summer he went on a killing spree when he found snakes in his wood pile for his fireplace. I told him that garter snakes will not bother him and they eat the mice in the garden.

At least Baltimore has lots of green space and builders are required to plant trees but there are neighborhoods that are nothing but concrete. I feel claustrophobic in those areas. It is weird, like I am outside and can't breathe.

"The Earth and all the creatures are what really matter otherwise, we are just killing ourselves." So very true. I can't believe the callousness of some people, yet I know it happens all the time. It's almost like standing on a street corner and giving away a child because you don't want the responsibility any more. People like that should be black-listed from ever getting a pet of any kind - even a goldfish is too much for them.

goldfish actually take a bit of work. People always think they are easy. they aren't. freshwater tropical are easier than goldfish. thanks for reading.

I didn't know that. I never had fish, just cats and dogs. Thanks for the information!
