I've never had that particular problem with test-driving a car, but the hubby tested one once that broke down a few miles away from the dealership. *Snorts* Needless to say, we didn't buy that particular vehicle.
*Grins* And, I can totally relate to your weather woes. We had just lovely weather yesterday... Storms and rain and lightning, and those damn tornado warnings. Luckily the bulk of it past south of us, and I don't believe there were any actual tornado touch-downs, only sighting of funnel clouds.
But I've got me a battery-operated lantern (for camping) that I pull out in case of such silly things as power-outages. (Which happen FAR more often than I care for). Writing fic by lantern isn't that bad.
But hey, at least candlelight might be romantic *snickers* Might set the mood? *Foresees a DomBilleh fic with lovely candle-pr0n*
