Severus hated the fact that he cried whenever he was scared. He was scared all the time those first few months at Hogwarts. Black started chanting Snivellus in the corridors and everyone picked up on it. He tried not to cry, but every time he thought it was under control, he was pushed, tripped or laughed at. He loaned his book to Goyle and was turned into a chicken. That was grist for the mill for ages. He had to go down the tunnel, to prove he wasn't chicken. He'd cried after that, but never again. Instead, Severus fought back.

I was expecting a humour drabble to result from that prompt, but yours is brilliant... Nicely plausible character study. I want to give young Snape a hug.
