Oh my gosh, you write by hand?? That is so romantic and awesome... I used to and I've gotten so out of the habit that it's almost impossible now! Plus my handwriting is difficult for even me to read. :)
I used to write by hand (back in the day I wrote a running serial about crime solving girls and their ponies and kept it in a spiral notebook that people had to sign out and pass around to the next person on the list) and I can tell you, the transition to typing was hard--but now I can't imagine not typing--it's like the words flow through my finger tips when they used to come out of the pencil.
These days, I'm trying to get used to voice recognition software, and believe me, I'm fighting that one as much as I did the transition off notebooks to computers. I think it's what you get used to!
Looking forward to your story (and you reminded me how much I used to love Beauty and the Beast :-)
These days, I'm trying to get used to voice recognition software Can I ask you how well this works? My only real experience with it was during an experiment in our media lab at university, but the results weren't great. Does it just take a long time to train the software to your voice or has the technology improved in the last ten years?
The technology has improved tremendously, but it still has problems. The program can learn, however, and therefore it behooves you to correct the problems as you go along, so that it will learn from previous mistakes. I found that incredibly frustrating to do when I was working on a new draft though. The second thing is it takes a ton of memory. I had to get extra memory for my desktop and I can't use it on my laptop at all. I do have a digital recorder that is supposed to be compatible, but all of these things take time to play around with and learn to use, and that's what I am always short on. :-(
I read up a bit on speech recognition and it seems that the recognition rate for non-specialized (i.e. limited to a set of words) texts has topped out at 80% or so. I think I'll just stick to good old-fashioned typing. (Plus the most promising Open Source package seems to be very complicated to set up.)
• What if anything do you listen to while driving? Music that creates stories or music videos in my head. Right now that would be music by Nickelback and Daughtry.
Back when I was driving to work daily it was country music that generated bunnies for my Smallville fics. It's one of the few things I miss about that daily grind. :-P
The dress matched the one I had drawn for my D&D character for her wedding I saw the drawing in your deviant art gallery and it's really beautiful.
My loves are few and far between, but I put everything I have into them, so I really couldn't handle more. That's how it is for me too. I only had two really big fandom obsessions. BtVS and SGA.
