Oh! This is wonderful, and achy, and sharp, and beautiful, and I love it.

Oh man, this is so great. The style really fits this story about second-chances and brushes-with-death and things that nearly happened that clearly still haunt John. You deal with the consequences of living in a universe in flux in such a great, matter-of-fact way. This is sharp and wistful and hopeful. Thanks!

I love this. You accomplish a lot in relatively few words; there's just enough here to bring out the emotional edges without saying too much. There are so many unknowns and might-have-beens about that whole situation that I imagine will haunt both of them for a long time.

Fabulous! I love your sparse John voice, what is said and what is not, but still clearly there, between the lines, and how nuanced it is. Despite the regrets, the nagging sense of hopelessness, the melancholy bend to it all - sadly, the Pegasus mentality really does seem to be "eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die", which has added eerie considering the title and prompt - the whole thing really does have a great sense of hope to it.
