“You're lying,” Rodney said, stopping dead. “Nobody picks two as their lucky number.”

John looked up at the trees. They were very... green. “Why would I lie, Rodney?”

“To-- because-- I don't know, you just like arguing!”

John hid a smile, adjusting his vest. “No, I don't.”

“I like the number four,” Teyla said firmly, and took point.

They all fell in behind her, Rodney looking puzzled. “I don't get it,” he complained.

Ronon lengthened his stride. “I don't want to.”

“You know, it used to be one,” John murmured, and watched Rodney's eyes widen.

Rodney stared at John.

He clutched the Ancient device in his hand, his green hand. Everything Rodney could see was green, starting at John's face and shading down into his collar, even John's hair had a greenish tint.

"Why make a device that turns you green?" John laid the device down taking a step away.

"How do I know?" Rodney blustered. "Does it hurt?"

John did an internal check, "I seem to be okay."

"Good," Rodney grabbed John's shirt, towing him along. "First, we check with Carson to make sure you're alright, then we see if you're green all over."

"Does it hurt?"

John's sensitized skin could feel the Rodney's fingers tremble as they traced just outside the labyrinth etched by the Gebrith high priest. He tried shrugging the question away only to hiss at the pull across the freshly inked surface. "Ehh, maybe a little."

Rodney shook his head while rummaging in the first-aid kit for antibiotic cream and bandages. "I still can't believe you let them tattoo you."

"It's a map, Rodney." John flinched under a cool dollop. "To a ZPM."

Rodney huffed, his fingers gentler than his irritated words. "They could have used paper instead of you."

"You know it used to be one."

"One, Rodney?" John asked. "Why is that?"

"Didn't think I needed more." Rodney readjusted his tie, which was rapidly becoming a wad of wrinkled silk. "I hate ties. Never wear them if I can avoid it. One seemed plenty." Frustrated, he yanked off the crumpled mess and held it out for John to see. "This is why."

"Want help?"

"God, yes."

"Like this," John said. "End over. Loop. Slip. Tug. He kissed the nape Rodney's neck. "Easy."

"So, I should have more?"

"Kisses or ties?"

Rodney rolled his eyes. "What do you think?"
