i really didn't think they'd go this way with these songs. only a few listens in, but i think it's my least favourite of all of them. still nice, tho.

CLAWING MY FACE OFF IN JOY. THESE ARE SO WHAT I WANTEDDDDDDD AUGGGGH. I can see how they're just not as genius and innovative as DD, but they are SO SOLID and just give me PURE FEELINGS. PURE. FEELINGS. UGHGHHHHH BAAAAAAAAANDDDDDDDD.

I absolutely love these last two songs! I think they were the perfect two to round out the CW releases. There's something almost dark, kind of menacing, about the guitars and drums and Gerard's growl in these songs... but they don't FEEL dark. I've been listening to them on repeat and I don't think that will stop any time soon!

I'm still so glad they decided to release these songs. It's been really great to have "new" music from the band while they're taking a break between albums. Now that we have all 10, I feel like playing around with different tracklists to see what sounds best and would've made sense on a fully released album. I doubt I'll have an easier time of it than the band did, but it'll be fun at least!

I need to listen to both songs again, but based on my initial listens I really love Burn Bright, and it reminds me more than a little of Famous Last Words, to the point where I wonder if that was part of the reason they set it aside (to be clear, I don't think the similarity is at all a bad thing, or enough to make the song derivative, but I can see why they would have wanted to do something a little more different).

(I also enjoy listening to Gerard singing about how he kissed all the boys in my city lights. Or, well, someone did, and I'm going to go ahead and assume it was him.)

As far as the whole "album" goes, in every pair I've had a clear, instant favorite and one that just didn't grab me as much, but even the ones that haven't grabbed me, I still like, and I think they'll probably grow on me over time because almost every MCR song I didn't initially love has done that (except Cubicles. Sorry, Cubicles). And I'm still super glad that they decided to release these!

I like this assumption. It is now my assumption. :D

Also, yes, I totally get what you're seeing re: Burn Bright and Famous Last Words.

And LOL Cubicles. That was a song I DID like initially.... and now I can't listen to it AT ALL. Sorry, Cubicles.

I've chosen to assume the same thing about Burn Bright. Well, that either he or they kissed all the boys, since the previous lines starts with "we", then there's one with "I" after. :P

I think I have 1 song per album that I never got to like at all (none from CW though, I think). Cubicles is one! Just...no.

Augh, I have a LOT OF FEELINGS about these two songs and Conventional Weapons as a whole and basically NONE OF THE NECESSARY WORDS to express those feels. BUT.

1. I love CW5 a LOT.
2. The sound is incredible and feels way more current than two songs written four years ago have any right to.
3. MCR can write good songs until the cows come home, but if they're not writing about something cohesive, it's not fully them, ALWAYS.
4. God I love these motherfuckers so much.

THE END.
