They've grown on me, but it's taken longer than CW1 did - it was instant love for Tomorrow's Money, and it only took a few repeated plays before I felt the same with Boy Division. These two, though, are like 180 degrees different and it's taken me a bit.
And it makes clear at least part of the reason why they didn't -- couldn't release these songs -- there's no cohesion to them.
But I'm still so pleased to have had the opportunity to hear them, because they're great songs and you can really see the foundation MCR used to build from tBP to DD.
When I first listened to the songs, I preferred Ambulance, but now I'd have to say Gun. is my favorite (DON'T EVEN HAVE A GUN). Overall I definitely prefer CW1 to 2. They're good songs, but they're not what you think of when you think MCR and I think that's what put the band off, as well as how different the songs all sound. It does make me eager to hear more! I'm especially curious about what other genres we'll get-- like an extra surprise. :D Really fascinating insight into the band's process, and I'm so glad we get to hear them!
I feel like Gun. is quirky and fun, but not something I'll listen to into the ground. Ambulance, on the other hand, is something that's been on constant repeat. I like it just as much as Boy Division (and I listened to that one 200 times in two days when I first got it).

But I can see why this wasn't an album cause it sounds like they rummaged behind their couches and pulled out whatever songs they found.
