Okay, calling it quits on writing for the day: Almost up to 15,000 words! I hope to hit 30,000 in the next week or two so I can send it (and the complete Empire Ship) off to an agent before all my time is consumed by the SF Writing Workshop, Campbell Conference, and SF Teaching Institute.

Adventures of Jack and Stella progress:

What i don't get is why Scott is saying "this is not an Alien prequel."

I mean, it's clearly an Alien prequel.

Ridley Scott is a weirdo who doesn't understand what he's doing, even though he does things really well. Or he's the most pretentious twit on the planet. Or both. He does amazing things--he just needs to shut up about them. Seriously, Ridley. Just STFU. He's a perfect example of someone makes things I love, but I can't respect as a person or an artist separate from his work.

Hahahaha! True. This is another example of "Meeting your heroes will only lead to disappointment.

I think he just meant that it doesn't lead directly to the original movie, except to set up the horror of the crashed spaceship. But this really sets up a separate storyline....

Dude, you already have something coming at your head in your ID badge. You couldn't even make it out of employee training before getting attacked? Why am I not surprised.

Okay, I'm convinced. I'll just have to schedule seeing Prometheus sometime when nottygypsy is at work or something... I'm glad that it lives up to expectations!

Enjoy! Go with someone who'll be a great discussant right afterward; there's LOTS to discuss....

I agree that there's a lot of symbolism to discuss and the film itself is quite beautiful. I was disappointed with the fact that I was actually glad the characters were getting killed off. Horror is much more effective if you happen to care about the victims.

Good point, Patrick! One of the most important jobs of the writer is to get the reader to care about the fate of the characters, if not for the characters, themselves.
