I take a surprising amount of pleasure from just driving around in the machine I designed and built myself, all pretty and rumbly and roar-ey, fast and smooth, vintage and comfy, chrome and black and bronze, elegant and antisocial

I know what you mean. What is it about powerful V8 engines that stirs the soul? Sort of like a rollicking multiple heartbeat, like an orchestra section of fuel-powered heartbeats.
Oh, and then we started plotting our future hot rods... I have a deep love for the '69 GTO, because that was the car of my childhood. My mother and I were on the cloverleaf at 63rd Street and Metcalf when the muffler fell off. We giggled and screamed over the roar of the engine.
I know GTOs are not the shiznit of muscle car history, but I have this love...
Les wants the BIG Mustang.
Both of our cars will be black with chrome. The goat nose is so hot in chrome...
Oh, I LOVE the GTOs, especially that era! In college, I had a friend who had the Judge version of that car, and DAMN was it sexxy!
I assume Les means the Mach I, right? I would love to have a 1970 Mach I, myself.
Alas, I've always had four-door machines, because muscle cars have a 1000% premium cost just to buy them. My entire build - including the car's original purchase price - is less than what it would cost to buy a typical muscle car in restorable condition. Then add go-fast parts. Anyhow, I get a certain twisted pleasure out of turning something sedate into a hot-rod! And I can fit my huge telescope in the trunk and six friends on the bench seats ;-)
Yes, you're right! Mach I. My family was a Chevy/Pontiac family, so I don't speak Ford. ;-)
Here's the only pic I have of the GTO (that I know of). It was white, with chrome nose and back bumper, "hardtop convertible," two-door, maroon interior. My mother wrecked it when I was in first grade. She demolished a van and a mailbox with it, because our dog was trying to jump out the window. The dog was fine, my mother was fine, but the GTO never came back again.

Les and I were in KC, and this... kid was driving a tricked out SS. I rolled my window down so we could hear it better. Mmmmmm.
