injury update

Went to the doctor today to get a checkup about my shoulder. The first fun aspect was that his office, FirstMed in Lawrence, doesn't accept vehicular insurance. Prior to going there, I had asked my scoot insurance person how I should handle medical stuff, and she said that I should give them the Progressive card and they'd deal with what was ( Read more... )

I wasn't there, but it kind of sounds like you need a new doctor.

What a huge pile of suck. *hugs*

Sounds awful. And I suggest you get a second opinion. This doc doesn't sound too empathetic.

Yeah, I'm hoping to hear from the expert on bones next week. In the mean time, a week's worth of fretting about ever using my arm properly again. Which is awesome.

I broke my collarbone when I was younger. It sucks.

I wish you a speedy recovery man...and hire a stuntman next time.

I'd love to, but a stuntman giving me a ride from class to the office would have just tried to jump OVER the car, which would have ended in tears.

Thanks. It's kind of sucky. Even hurts to type, which has pretty much ended up wasting my weeks off between semesters - during which time I had been planning to write and send off stories. Which is great.

I think I'll check it out. Typing really does make me frown - not optimal for fiction-writing.

I would have screamed "specialist" as soon as I saw that xray. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Do your due diligence. See the specialist. Discuss your options with a lawyer -- you are (hopefully only temporarily) disabled. Also see if you can get a copy of voice recognition software (Dragon is mentioned as a good one) so you can keep creating while you're healing.

Yeah, I think I'll have to see a lawyer, considering how I'll be paying out-of-pocket for a while....

You haven't called them yet? :stern look:

You need the advice now.. out of the gate, especially with the latest developments of permanent injury.

That's just really awful... that it can't be "fixed". Maybe a specialist will know more. I'm glad you're documenting this. I found the "convert LJ to pdf" useful for my chronicling my pain diary.

I forgot to tell you that FirstMed doesn't do auto insurance billing. Just use your med insurance and turn in the bills/receipts to Progressive. You might be over your injury limits by now anyway. FWIW, I've found a great deal of the local docs don't bill auto insurance, including my (former) neurologist at $240 per test!

What a nightmare.

Yeah, now's the time to call. I wanted to know what I was dealing with first.

Having had more than my fair share of shoulder injuries, I'm going to second the advice to get another opinion. At the very least, ask to be sent to an occupational therapist who can do wonders to get things that are stretched out back into alignment and can also show you ways to work without pain.
