Sam knew he had to keep going to these things to get noticed. To make friends, to be popular. It all worked hand in hand. He was anxious though. He knew Kurt would be there and yes, he'd enjoyed kissing the other boy but he was still trying to convince himself that he wasn't into guys. He couldn't afford to be into guys; he saw how people treated Kurt. He didn't want that for himself.

He wore a traditional style costume and looked round as he entered. He smiled at familiar faces, waved at a handful and tried to spot the drinks. He knew it would all be strictly non alcohol and he was silently thankful for that.

"Uh, I don't really," he honestly had no clue what it was he felt for Kurt. Or even what the other boy felt for him. Because even though Sam hadn't made contact with Kurt, as of yet, Kurt hadn't either. So maybe Sam had scared him off? Scaring off a gay dude with a kiss had to be a new level of suckage for Sam.

"Pretty much. Most of them are like, overgrown monkeys. Love attention, can't communicate. At least they understand football or we'd really be screwed."

Jack nodded in understanding. "It's cool. I get it. I mean, I'm not all that sure about the dating prospects around here either. There are some sweet people around, but they seem distracted elsewhere. School work and all that. I've never really had the whole yearning to date a cheerleader either. Not that they would generally look twice at me."

"The team seems to be okay. Any different to you last school?" he asked.

"I dunno... my old school was an all boys school. So never really had a chance ta date a cheerleader," Not that he expected to. Or even felt now that he could do, or would do.

"Honestly? This team sucks compared to my last school. They don't really win and a lot of the guys have been hit in the head too often to really get what they're doing."

"Keeping it classic, nice," Lucy nodded. She didn't really have problems just striking up conversations with random strangers, never had. Especially when everyone was playing dress-up

He turned then to smile at this new voice and looked down at his outfit, then back at her, shrugging slightly. "Kinda last minute thrown together outfit, to be honest."

"Hey, it's not a bad one, though." Gesturing to her camera, she asked, "Mind if I snap a shot for the big Halloween collage the paper's putting together?"

"Uhhh, sure?" he looked a little perplexed by it but at the same time, this could really work for him. If he looked cool, then that would help with the popularity.

"Getting a good blend of people's my objective," she explained. "Years past it's been all, like, the photographer's friends, or girls wearing something really slutty, or something." She snapped away. Not many of the cool kids would probably be looking too closely, but it couldn't hurt?

"Oh. Yeah... sure," not too many cool kids would notice? Great. He'd just have to keep looking for paths and ways of reaching a level of popularity.

"Well, ha-ha, you'll get a free copy when it's out." Her own private joke. Of course all copies were free. "Thanks -- I'm, I'm Lucy, hey."

"Uh, thanks?" he nodded politely though and, because he didn't know how else to introduce himself politely to a girl, he held his hand out towards her for a handshake. "I'm Sam."

She didn't mind. It might have come off as formal to someone else, but Lucy kind of dug manners, actually. "Hey. Enjoying this rocking party?" She rolled her eyes at their surroundings, joking around.

"It's... kinda lame, actually," he admitted with a grimace. "Sorry. Uh, but it's better now," talking to her was fun at least, and keeping him nicely distracted from things.

Being fun in a tame way was one of her greatest talents. "I know, right? Dances are kinda iffy. If I hadn't been on photog duty and -- you know, had other interesting social things to do, I'd have skipped it," she joked lamely.

"Kinda find it hard to believe you don't have anything more interesting than here," she was pretty, after all. Shouldn't she have like, dates? With guys trying to use halloween as a great excuse for cuddling?
