Charlotte wasn't an especially selfless person - she knew this, and she fully admitted that she had a real judgmental streak when it came to other people, especially other performers. She rarely did things for the benefit of other people alone, and this excursion was no different. While she did believe that people should learn to dress themselves, and while she did feel a twinge badly that he couldn't afford nice things, it wasn't out of the goodness of her heart that she had agreed to take him shopping. Mainly it was because she didn't want her show to be represented in any way by anyone she wouldn't want to take around with her - and Rush's particular choice in clothing wasn't exactly her favorite. He could do better ( ... )

Although Rush took note of her short look up and down him, it didn't make him too uncomfortable, especially since she didn't linger or anything. He managed a weak smile back as well as a nod in assent. "Yeah," he said, wiping one sweaty hand on the drooping fabric of his sweater. Yes, he was okay with going on this... outing, and he wasn't nervous, dammit. His hands were just sweaty because... uh... it was weird. Awkward.

Of course, going out and having clothes bought for him was kind of amusing, as if he were something of a 'kept man.' With that thought in his head, he vowed to himself that he would pay her back at some point, if he could manage to find a job, what with the times.

He followed her to her car, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he did. "So... what kind of stores are we going into?"

She tossed her duffel bag into the trunk, purse dropped in the backseat as she sunk into the driver's seat, and gestured for him to get in. As they pulled out of the parking lot, Charlotte toyed with the radio, adjusting the dial until the low thrum of top 40 met her ears. "Normally, I'd drive out to Columbus - Lima doesn't have the stores I usually shop at - but we're doing basic renovations for you, so just the basics. You need well-fitting jeans, shirts that suit your complexion, the usual things. Nothing extreme ( ... )

"Oh. Uh... thanks," Rush said, fumbling over his words somewhat. He wasn't used to being complimented, even in Charlotte's off-hand manner. Yeah, of course his mom said he was gorgeous, but... yeah, that was his mom. He pretty much figured nobody else noticed him for that kind of thing.

His fingers tapped on the door handle when he recognized a song that was coming on, and he quickly mapped out all of the notes in his head. Interesting that he could do that so easily, but couldn't dress himself to current fashion standards. Nor become comfortable with the idea of dressing nicely... the other day he'd googled "GQ" just to get a few ideas, and was immediately distracted by all of the pictures of half-naked people of both sexes. But obviously Charlotte wasn't really going for GQ anyway, considering what she'd just said -- which he was immensely thankful for.

"That doesn't sound too... difficult, then."
