There may be a sequel in which Vincent actually sets up the date, but I'm waiting for feedback to see what people think - did Vince's plan work or go horribly wrong?

Any suggestions?
I did once read quite a good rare pairing story with John/Lindsey, although I don't have the link any more.

I'm not sure about making Lindsey John's new buddy/gf. For one thing, he'll only see her every couple of months. Considering how he and Rodney were in each other's back pockets on a regular basis (IS canon), I believe he needs a more regular gf. What about Lindsey introducing him to a scientist whom she's gotten to know on the voyage to Atlantis, a woman who is conveniently transferring to Atlantis. Then you get to invent an OFC ( ... )

Anyway, I just wanted to say that your comment about Slavic language syntax was very informative, & also the clearest explanation I've read of that language phenomenon. I only know English so of course I don't have a clue about the rules of other languages. When I've been a beta-reader for fics with characters who speak Slavonic languages, I tried to guess at speech patterns & how those characters might speak English. Your sentences above will make that task much easier!

But I'm thrilled that you had your own up-close-and-personal experience dealing with the idiosyncrasy of a Slavic language and learning from it. Personally, I feel that spoken language is the last obstacle for writers, especially when following an established canon. I often have Rodney's speech patterns (and flailing hands!) in my head when I write him. And then I try to recall some of the more nuanced characters if I'm also using them.
And now I have to read the sequel to be sure I did read it before. Thanks for my Saturday morning mystery!

In any case, I got an urge to re-read "How Not to Die in the Pegasus Galaxy" & found the link to this in your index post. I really like Vince sassing Evan a bit here, trying to get him to loosen up & get involved in the matchmaking scheme. It would certainly have a higher chance of success if Evan was involved! In fact, 'sassing people' seems to be a big part of Vince's social interactions; I can see how that would be attractive to both Rodney & John, for different reasons.
It's great fun to see Radek teasing Rodney too. Your Rodney seems more relaxed & adaptable, & probably more rested--having a hot young boyfriend seems to agree with him. ;-) I'm just a little concerned about the possible girlfriends for John this group may come up with, & a lot concerned how John is going to react to the scheme. It's difficult to come up with a plausible girlfriend for John; that's one reason why McShep makes ( ... )
