freecycle ROCKS

May 22, 2011 21:41

So in the course of deciding to clear house a bit, I decided to purge my shelves of a bunch of books I got from freecycle but truthfully, am never going to read. Probably about 25 or so. Was a bit wobbly about suddenly having gaps in my bookshelves, but then again, I had been double stacking so thought, OK, I can organise them properly again. I ( Read more... )

Must be the very best way of re cycling goods, we take ours to the local charity shop where we know it does some good, and some of the good things are used for needy families.

Yay for space and new books to fill it!!! As you say good for the soul too. Well done girl,

I have to make better use of the charity shops, though there are not many around here. One of the difficulties I have is the fetch and carry and standing around in the stores, BUT I fully support the charity shops. There used to be a lot more, and then they closed up - maybe more will open because the economy is not recovering. One HUGE one opened up not far from me. I'm glad I re-read your comment, because I will have to take a look there for some of the things I need instead of going to regular stores.

Hurrah! I must look into similar. I know I'm a member of the local one (freegle, it is over here) but I've not looked at their lists or posted for simply ages.

There is an actual freecycle in the UK, and I am sure there are variations of it as well (freegle, as you say). I also say, the more ways to upcycle, freecycle, re-use, etc, the better!

When I first signed up, I would constantly forget to look at the lists too - so on Freecyle I chose the option to have nitifications sent to my email. There are a couple of ways to do it, so you are either bombarded with individual emails or get single ones with bunches.

You had me wondering so I looked up Freecycle and find there is one in Brisbane, now I just have to get my act together to see whay I can recycle, sadly there isn't much as I do clean outs very often and the stuff usually goes to the Charity shops, but one never knows until they try do they? Thnks Terry:)

I hope that you like using Freecycle. Sometimes I go for months and months without using it (to either give away or receive) and sometimes, like now, I use it a lot in a short period. You never know! Just like going to the charity shops - you may find lots or nothing. Some of the pleasure though is just knowing that something like Freecycle exists, and is global!

Sounds like a great way to sort and pass on books. YAY!

I love how you got two boxes of books before sorting through your own though, thus keeping more - LOL! (is that the way it went, not sure I read it right).

Hope those bookcases don't look too empty now, but rather sorted and neat with no double stacked rows or books hanging off the edges :)

YAY for awesome free things.

Yes, you read it right. It was just coincidence. I was already planning to clean out my bookshelves, and someone happened to post that they were giving away books.

I still have some double stacking, but not nearly as much as before. And the books I got are MUCH more likely to be read. I was cleanign out because the last bunch of books I'd gotten were just sitting there - hadnt been read or barely touched in months. Better to pass them on so someone else has a chance to enjoy them.
