All rise: my first court appearance on behalf of a client

Nervous and excited. That's how I felt from the moment it was confirmed that I'd be making the trip to Edmonton County Court. It was a Landlord/Tenant case involving a repossession order. Well done! Hopefully it's all downhill from there.

Called my dad who was in India. He got the fright of his life when I said I'd just finished at court.

You should have taken more notice of my joke comment on your previous post. :)

Indeed! One thing's for sure, I'll be a lot more confident up to the point I'm sat in front of the judge. There on, not so sure. As solicitors we're not traditionally expected to appear in front of judges, so it doesn't come as naturally to us as it does to barristers. But with enough experience, I'm sure I'll eventually do what the judge actually asks for!

Fascinating; thanks for that! It's somehow reassuring to know that even lawyers aren't sure of which bags you can take into places. Makes them (you) seem more human. =;)

Hah! Reminds me of the first lawyers joke I learnt in a course of Business Law that I took during my undergrad in Canada. The lecturer asked us why they bury lawyers 100 feet deep... because deep down they're good people!
