India has announced a 15-man squad for the first two Tests against Australia. It includes Ganguly and two new guys, Badrinath and Misra. It's going to be tricky to trim it down to the final XI. McGain's out of the first Test. The Australian selectors will probably go with Krejza, which would be ridiculous. The Indian batsmen will eat him alive if he plays. If it were up to me I'd play four quicks - Lee, Clark, Johnson, Bollinger.

Watson seems a certain starter, so the only other choice to make is Jaques v Katich. The media seem to think that Jaques will be picked. I think that that's madness - Katich is batting well, and has done well in India before.

McGain, Krejza and Bollinger - I've never heard of these guys before! Katich has done well against India both at home and away. Nice to see he's back. He's a good player of spin.

McGain is the fairy-tale story, if ever he makes the Test team. He has played in Melbourne grade cricket for a long time. With Warne now retired and Cameron White hardly bowling, he became Victoria's first-choice spinner last summer. And he did well (for an Australian spinner these days), averaging 33 or so. He was the best spinner in Australia after MacGill, and should have gone to the Windies. But the selectors picked Casson as the second spinner (to give him experience), and when MacGill suddenly turned horrible and retired, it was Casson who made his debut ( ... )
