is really fucking irritating. I was down at the market place in the lobby of the hotel where I'm living buying smokes earlier. This place is tiny, stocked with a few basic grocery items, some novelty/candy items, and smokes. There's only ever one employee on at a time. Whenever I go down there it's this 40ish guy. Hahaha, that is awesome.

Reminds me a bit of the awkward conbini (Japanese for "convenience store") manager who'd sometimes accost me in English and chat with me about the strangest shit ever. (In Japan, even there, they have Japanese employees though, haha.) He was cool though - we talked about, among other things, my opinions of George W. Bush and other world politics, how he used to work for a big TV-making company in Tokyo, and everything in between.

I still can't believe how many people in my town actually spoke English pretty well. My dentist, pharmacist, the conbini dude, and a few of the local elementary as well as junior high teachers. Good times.

I may be just pulling this out of my ass but don't Japanese people go to school when they're really young to learn English in case they ever need to use it? Maybe not. I dunno.
