Never let it be said that Dresden chooses to disappoint.

So - hitting a usual haunt. I'm hungry and I have a couple dollars. Also, I haven't had a decent meal in over a week - maybe more. Rosa spoiled me, then disappeared. Sort of. I assume school got in the way. I've seen evidence of her existence.

"What? That I have access to power that I can use to blow things up, but not to heal my hand?"

I shrug.

"Not really. If I'd spent time focusing on healing magic, I would be able to heal my hand. The ironic side of things is that had I been a healer, I wouldn't need to heal my hand."

"Huh. See, they never tell you things like that. I never knew you had to pick which area to specialise in. Makes it sound like being a wizard is like being a doctor."

"I suppose I could specialize in a lot of other areas, but then I'd spend all of my time learning and perfecting and none of my time actually getting anything done. So, it probably is a lot like being a medical specialist."

"Still seems kind of shitty." He shrugs, stuffs a fork in his mouth. The steak is just too good. "So how do you decide what to specialise in?"

"It's just what I was best at." I shrug. "Kind of an angry kid. Emotions fuel magic. I had a lot of anger, anger does good with fire, I'm good with fire magic."

At least, that's the way I see it.

"Makes sense I guess." He's almost finished the steak. Pity, that. He cuts smaller pieces to make it last longer.

My steak's about the same size as his now - I'd eat slower, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to finish the thing for someone squawking at me for some reason or another.

"Sometimes things do that."

"Only sometimes," Greg clarifies, because that needs to be stated. The last bite of steak is followed by a draining of his drink. He's more than satisfied.

"Yup."

I arch an eyebrow over the top of my bottle of ale.

"Must not have been too bad, since you hoovered it."

"I went a little slower than you did."

"Only a little." Greg eyes the meat still standing on Harry's plate.

"Trust me, if you try to thieve it, you'll pull back a stump." I even offer a bit of a dog-like growl for emphasis.

Ya just don't get away with snatching a man's steak off his plate. There's not but three or four bites left anyway.

"I don't want your germs." Greg makes a face.

"Good."

I finish off my steak and pull the last few drops of ale from the bottle.

"What do you want?"
