Another ending

Borders, which entered bankruptcy protection earlier this year, has announced, at the age of 40, that it's going out of business. I knew Borders back when it was a single store in Ann Arbor, only 8 years old. Then it grew to be nationwide. I rejoiced in being able to attend a concert in Dallas in 1993 at the Borders there, and feel at home. And ( Read more... )

This ex-AnnArborite will also miss Borders.
As for other local establishments, at least Zingerman's is still going strong, last I checked.

Companies that strive to become Great Big Dominant Business ultimately collapse under their own weight and disappear. I wish somebody in the companies I like -- yes, I'm talking about you, Borders -- would notice this and resist the temptation to expand.

I will miss Borders a lot.

*sigh* I'm pretty damn sad about this too. Not that I've ever been in the #1 Borders, but I'm awfully fond of the one at 13 & Southfield.

You know, if you come out to AA for Art Fair (running through Saturday) you could... assuming they're OPEN now...

Went there last weekend before last. Don't know if I'll go back. It's just too sad.
