I watched on DVR, which means I could pause mid-episode and type reactions and mini-rants. So this is a transcript of that. It's like live-tweeting, except I don't tweet. Spoilers, and a fair amount of swearing ( Read more... )

I just watched this episode during lunch break. My attention lapsed when Hook entered the hospital and picked back up when he and Emma were bickering in the woods. That's all I really needed to know about the episode. Some continuity would be fantastic ( ... )

I really wished the writers paid more attention to continuity. The show has so much potential, and it's frustrating when they're too busy writing themselves in circles and introducing unnecessary plot devices to establish an overall arc. The characters and premise are so smart; they don't need all the extra plot contrivances. I really do love the show, but it also frustrates me immensely. I wind up spending the week between episodes on Tumblr looking for head canons to help explain the plot holes and constant ret-cons. Sometimes it feels like the fans put more effort into getting the plot to make sense than the writers do. *sigh ( ... )

I have an easier time "turning my brain off", at least where shoddy storytelling is involved (I rarely ever rewatch episodes). I honestly didn't notice most of the discontinuities with the show until you started pointing them out. Instead, just predict where the plot is going. I frequently "ruin" an episode for my girlfriend when we're both watching it for the first time (and movies). This also leads to another annoyance: people who predict where the plot is going based on "meta" information (i.e., we know so-and-so is leaving the show, so their character is going to die). It's not the act that annoys me, it's the pats on the back they give themselves by predicting the plot. Stop stealing my thunder, people ( ... )

Yeah, I've been really trying to avoid outright spoilers, because the people leaking the news are so full of it. This is really the first time I've been in a position like this, because normally I don't watch shows until they're on Netflix ( ... )
