Traveling alone..

So I have this crazy idea.. to pretty much travel on my own. I haven't really found anyone to travel with due to a variety of valid reasons that just come with life being life. I would love to go with my boyfriend, but he too has things like school, bills, etc. I had been planning on going to Italy in Feb. That's not really happening now. However, ( Read more... )

Biggest advice I can give you? Travel -LIGHT-. Keep yourself to bare essentials. Yes, you can survive on two jeans. Lots of charity shops exist in UK and Europe, you can actually buy a new top and discard it as you go along. In otherwords, carry lots of underwear and socks and plan to buy your clothes as you go along. Oh, one pair of traveling boots.

I think there's a site called couch surfers where folks offer their couch for one night if your travelling through their area. Gimme a bling on AIM if you want more general surviving advice.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of bring much at all besides travel essentials, a sleeping bag and about 2 changes of clothes. I hadn't heard of the charity shops and that sounds really convienent! Did you travel alone much when you were in England?

I'd heard about couch surfing too and it seems like a really goodway to meet up with other travelers and interesting people. Maybe I can even find a travel buddy through it.

I'm sure I'll be hitting you up for alot of advice once I get a better idea of things :D

Yes, did travel a bit to ireland, france etc. but not for an extended period of time. Packing advice comes from my real-life experience though.

People get used to having a full wardrobe when they live in one place. When travelling even two jeans and a top becomes a burden (and heavy). You're an artist, with the urge no doubt to carry a few drawing books. I suggest carrying only one. A reasonably sized one.

Sleeping bag is good idea, it doubles as a good blanket if you get to sleep on a bed.

You can usually find about two charity shops on the high streets in England. Pretty sure Europe has something similar. You can get very good clothes for 1/8th of the price sometimes!

Hope you find a travel buddy! If you come by my part of the world I'd gladly show you a few places in London.

I've usually traveled with a school group, or with friends, or with my mom, who's great to travel with. Do you speak Italian pretty fluently? I like Florence, where I lived for three months, and LOVE Rome, though I was only there for about four days or so. The Cinqueterra's area is also really nice ( ... )

I hardly know any Italian at all =/ I just can't seem to find any traveling companions. No school groups since I'm long out of school, friends are either busy or pennyless, family is busy with their lives, etc. Been looking into Couch Surf more to see if I can't make any friends to travel with there. I definitely get that concern of being able to relax more with other people around to watch your back.

Oh theh Ice Hotel would be amazing to see! How fun to have a LARP in England :D

Now...see...I COULD have hooked you up with my friend Becca out there if she hadn't up and moved to Canada with her fiancee a few years ago. :/
