I was sort of dreading the Snape/Lilly love that I'd been expecting, but I agree with you, that it comes from a place of basic non-sexuality, and that he was a lonely child and a lonely man, and none the better for it ( ... )

Yeah, I actually agree that the characters we see in the "Nineteen Years Later" portion got their happily ever afters, as they were definitely characters designed to want the nuclear family shindig. And, in all honesty, I like Harry/Ginny and Hermione/Ron, so the fact that they're still together all those years later makes me cheesy shipper's heart fill with glee. It's just that, well, if we're looking into their future, why not see what they're doing beyond marrying and breeding? All it'd take is a, "mum's got to hurry off to the Ministry" or two. (Of course, since we don't know, we totally get to make that stuff up ourselves, which is possibly even more fun. The more I sit and reflect, the less annoyed with the epilogue I become. That said, it's never going to be my favorite part of the story.)
