Sosleeeepy.
So, I had a good birthday yesterday. Lots of lovely good wishes in the morning, beginning with Jase giving me a hard drive (... tehe :P) as the first pressie of the day, followed with some really thoughtful/fitting presents from his parents, some lovely little gifts from
marinaobeckham and a birthday podcast (!!) from a friend in Germany!

I don't know how I feel about funerals. The only one I've been to was for my grandmother a few years ago, and though I did feel sad, it...didn't drive me to tears or anything, you know? It's been years, and I don't even know if it's sunk in yet. That numb feeling I was expecting never came. Just the "life goes on" sentiment, which is kind of depressing. She became a Christian a few months before her passing too, so I know she died happy at least. :\

Hmm, I hadn't realised it over the years, but uncle Patrick was apparently a strong Christian... it's nice to think he had his faith to support him, through that tough time :)
Though, it did mean that I was sitting in the Cathedral feeling vaguely cynical, and feeling bad for that (and bad because of what my cynicism means - ie. I don't have any rosy ideas about an afterlife, and it's all just scary and horrible and meaningless).

Regarding The Undiscovered Country, I have this story to offer: on New Years Day 2002, my uncle Tony called(it was about an hour away from the new year over there) and spoke to everyone in the house. He asked us how we all were, of course, but he also gave everyone little bits of advice in life; he recommended several films he thought I should see and encouraged me to embrace the coming first year of university as a whole new lifestyle. All of those usual family things.
Not three weeks later they found him halfway out of his car near a worksite(he worked for British Rail). He'd had a stroke. For me, the phone call was thrown into a strange but slightly comforting context; it was as though he'd expected what was coming, and was making his peace. That is what I chose to believe.
On a happier note, I was waiting for Emily in the Info Sys carpark on Monday evening and had the pleasure of watching you play Flying Disc. Go yellow team!!
