A Deadhead Sticker on a Cadillac

My long-time nerd store, Adventure Games Plus, is closing its doors this Sunday.  The good news is that they are having a 30% off sale tomorrow, and 50% off come Saturday and Sunday.  Most of their new stuff is gone, but you can still get dice cheap and they still have a good selection of older books ( Read more... )

I was considering just the other day how the concept of "game store" needs to have a lot more than just selling retail. In today's click-and-ship world, it's much too easy to get the dorkery supplies you need, and usually at a discounted cost, too.

This may frighten you, but I agree. When Joe left and all the usual nerd suspects stopped hanging around the store, I felt free to shop at the on-line stores without overhead and whatnot. Since I already have a player base, I didn't need the store to find new ones. Gaming is, ironically, a social activity, and the best way for them to adapt to the MMORPG onslaught is to remember that. Though, as evidenced by my roommate, you can still have an interesting social life on WoW.....

Interesting does not equal healthy or good :)

But it does make for good stories. I even have some of myself. *sigh*

I stopped in there the other weekend and picked up a Call of Cthulhu supplement for far cheaper than I would have anywhere else. I've shopped at AGP off and on over the years. It wasn't my favortie store, but it was nice and was always a place to check out for hard to find stuff.

Although, I knew that without Joe the store would wither and die. I knew that they'd get rid of Joe as the last resort, and that it wouldn't last long without him

Untill Joe gets his own stoer up and running, check our Fortress Games in Menomonee Falls.

YOUNG NERDS. It's across the street from the high school, so there are all sorts of next generatin gamers. It's refreshing.
